Go Glocal: Buy International Brands in their Place of Production

Friday, January 8th, 2010

What’s emerald green and functionally ritz all over?  A medium-sized make-up case by Prada [http://www.prada.com/], while on the go.  In order to stay glocal, I decided awhile back to only purchase goods made by international companies during a trip to that particular place.  That means that I can look forward to buying Louis Vuitton while in France, eating Jamon Serrano while in Spain, and purchasing Prada before delighting in a regional dish in Italy.  In my opinion, that’s the only way to stay excited about things that can now be found practically anywhere, but are in reality tied to one specific place.  What’s more, when adhering to that rule, I’ve found that each piece then also holds a story that will evoke memories after each use.  The cost of that?  Perhaps a lot.  The value?  Priceless.

Tickle Toe Style

Tickle Toe Style

Who can resist a baby gear company called Tickle Toes? Just the sound of it makes me want to start having my own right away. This New Jersey brand is based out of Wall Township (yes, that’s the name of the town) and is known for its accessories, “bath time goodies,” and “feeding time necessities.” If you go onto its website, you can also read different blog posts about how Tickle Toes tackles the season, how Tickle Toe travels, and how Tickle Toes takes its debut. Of course, the online site is also a great way to shop the store, either retail or wholesale, and to find out more information in general. I almost can’t stand how cute this company is. I’m totally tickled.

Los Angeles Boutique Kitson Launches Eco-Friendly American-made Line

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Los Angeles boutique chain Kitson launched a new line of eco-friendly, organic apparel, on the eve on Earth’s Day. The new company, LIV GRN, is “geared toward the modern-day, eco-savvy consumer – merging style and comfort with earth sustaining materials“. Not only are the clothes 100% organic, but the tags are made from 100% recycled paper, and here’s my favorite part – they’re all made locally in Los Angeles, so you will be leaving behind a small carbon footprint with these threads.

Plus, every time you buy a piece from the collection, 10% of every sale is donated to Global Green USA, one of the world’s largest eco-friendly charities.

Cute Shorts. Good for the planet.

Kitson is one of the hottest boutiques in Los Angeles and is a celebrity favorite. When they launch a locally made, eco-friendly line, people take notice! Good job, Kitson!

Free Reynolds Wrap! Yay!

Free Reynolds Wrap! Yay!

If you weren’t away (ie living in a freakin’ cave), today is Earth Day. Every store online or otherwise seems to be running an Earth Day sale today, but if you want a real Earth Day treat (ie FREE) then hit up Reynolds Wrap. Reynolds Wrap has just launched a 100% recycled roll of their classic aluminum foil, which I personally think is fabulous, since I recycle their wrap all the time. And they’re giving a rebate TODAY ONLY! for a free roll of the new product.

And my other favorite part of the whole thing (besides the eco-friendliness and umm, free-ness) is that the site keeps touting how its “Made in the U.S.A.”…I love their realization that manufacturing origin is now important to people!

So I’ll be getting my rebate today, and today only(!), and I suggest you do too. Mother Nature would want you to!
