Charlottesville – How Much is Too Much When It Comes to Local, Independent Grocers?

Dear Charlottesvillians,
You are lucky to live in a community that has truly embraced the “buy local/eat local/shop local” movement. But are you feeling overwhelmed by the plethora of mom and pop food retailers? Many of you could easily name five local, independent grocers, but is there room for more? Do you think there is room for something more comprehensive, walkable, and ethical (will donate, lower prices, reach out to lower-income populations, etc.) in downtown Cville? That’s what one of your neighbors is wondering.

If you have an opinion (don’t we all??) chime in on this survey here. Help to make your community a better place!

YES! Of course there is more room for local grocers. We have traditional grocery stores all over town. How great to provide options for healthy, local food all over town as well. As far as I’m concerned, we still have a long way to go. A more comprehensive store really focused on local foods that is walkable sounds great to me. Bring it, I say.
