This year, the Charlottesville City Market was extended well past its usual early-fall closing date. Why keep consumers from eating local foods, procured directly from the producers, while they’re still readily available? Thus, the period in between the farmer’s market and the holiday market was bridged by the sale of some late-season vegetables, winter fruit-filled pies, and handicrafts. At one interim market day, I noticed that the usual Shenandoah Joe Coffee stand had been replaced by that of Righteous Bean. Though I had just had my morning cup, it was so cold that I was compelled to get another to keep my hands warm, if nothing else. The Viennese Roast was dark and delicious, and totally did its job. Within minutes, I was comfortably chatting—and shopping—away again. Knowing that the beans are also Organic and Fair Trade, I’ll probably go back for an entire bag this coming weekend.
