One of several locally baked bread shelves at the wine shop.
Market Street Wine Shop in Downtown Charlottesville has functioned as my multi-purpose grocery and getaway for the past two years. Ever since I moved to the Virginian city’s pedestrian area, I’ve tried to keep my driving to a minimum. The result of that conscious effort has been a patronage of all of the small, family-owned businesses that are within walking distance of my apartment. Market Street Wine Shop, with its variety of product offerings and keen staff workers, has been endlessly satisfying as a source of both provisions and relaxation time. When the bread at my home has gone stale, the shop has a variety of freshly baked, local pieces to provide for me. Albemarle Baking Company’s selection, pictured here, is a favorite. If I’m every in need of some local cheeses to spread upon that baguette I most likely just bought, the wine shop is proficient in that department as well, as it is with local hard ciders, beers, and of course, wines. Only the complimentary beer and wine tastings that the establishment conducts every Friday evening can exceed the convenient, local splendor that is the Market Street Wine Shop.
