Hormone Lovers
Just when you thought that agribusinesses couldn’t gain any more control, they purchase their way to power, once again. Several states are now in the process of mandating that dairy companies take the “hormone-” or “rBST-free” labels off of their containers, and it’s not because they’re afraid of a cluttered aesthetic. Rather, the legislative change is due to big hitters such as Eli Lilly having literally bought such chemicals for growth and wanting to secure a profit over the health of the people. How will consumers now be able to tell if the dairy they’re buying is free from such additives? If you can’t speak to a local dairy farmer (or distributor) directly, just look for the Certified Organic label. It should also tell you whether or not the product is pumped with antibiotics on a factory farm. Short video on the subject here.
